Counting Cards (Six of Hearts)

Warren Henderson

Counting cards in Vegas can bring a big profit! Just prior to our only home meet of the year, Warren Henderson was found counting cards of a different type. The task of making sure that the race finish cards were in the right order was actually punishment for a small infraction from earlier in the week. But it looks like he had his eye on a specific one of those cards. He was only our eighth runner the race before, so his performance was a bit of s surprise; although it was not an "any color" P.R., it was an astonishing 1:18 minute P.R. for a "Black Course." Truly amazing! So what card best represented Warren's performance? The Six of Hearts, as he was sixth place overall in the race containing five teams, and he ran with all of his heart!

Denise Lara

"Is this an Orange or Black Course?"

Denise Lara

We think someone forgot to tell Denise Lara that our home course is a "Black Course," which are traditionally slower than the "Orange Courses." Her fastest time of the year so far was on an "Orange Course" three weeks early, where she ran just a few seconds over 29 minutes. Thanks to 500 meters of sand, our course at Cottonwood Beach is a black one. Rarely do runners achieve P.R.'s on this course, but Denise not only ran the fastest time of her life, she "jumped over" the 28's and landed in the middle of the 27's with a time of 27:27. It looks like 27 was her lucky number today. (By the way, that is 3 cubed, one of Jonathan Wells' formulas from his honored performance last week!) Denise is well on her way to being a factor in the team's future success.
