Daniel Kish, Barb Guerra - Defy the Circumstances in Life
We all saw Oscar Pistorius make history in London by overcoming his circumstances in life by being the first double below-knee amputee to run in the Olympics. He is heralded as the fastest man with no legs. However, the only two "non-athletes" on our list (that get combined into one listing) have been more remarkable in overcoming the circumstances that life has dealt them.
Daniel Kish is completely blind - since the age of 13 months. But that does not stop him from riding a bike. Kish has trained himself to hear slight echoes from sharp clickings with his tongue and is able to interpret their meaning. He had developed his own sonar system, a lot like bats, whales and dolphins. Standing on his front stoop, he could visualize, with an extraordinary degree of precision, the two pine trees on his front lawn and a car that he could determine was poorly parked!
Along with Kish, overcoming her circumstances of having no arms, Barb Guerra is a Fitness Instructor and a body builder. A couple of her amazing feats are change her baby's diapers and putting on makeup with her feet! Her hand writing (more accurately said foot writing) is better than mine! She does not consider herself handicapped, but rather just with limitations, as everyone has limitations. However, she has not allowed society's definition of limitations apply to her and her circumstances of life.
Based on the accomplishments of these two, we don't have any excuses in why we cannot achieve the expected, and in most cases, way beyond.
We must not let our shortcomings get in the way of our potential accomplishments!
