The "Run-Down": All-League (Hockinson Meadows)

The goal today was to run PRs, en route to our best races of the season next week. The weather was perfect to help us out. However, due to the course changes, the times were suspiciously slower than expected, but we still came away from the race with a dozen "Black Course PRs." Actually, based on adjustments from the suspicious course, we really decided to count 14 of them for the day! So we definitely declared this day to be a success.

For our Future Varsity boys, we were one shy of a complete team, making it impossible to get a team score. But our pack of 4 panthers was led by freshman Blake Roberts with an 11th place finish in 20:48.4. Freshman Jacob Bowen (22:03.8) and sophomore Dakota Krecklow (22:13.3) joined Blake in running Black Course PRs. All three of them wrapped up their inaugural season in style. As for our Future varsity girls, sophomore Sydney Hickey found a way run the race of her life, only 24 seconds off the previous week's speedy Concordia course, almost 2 full minutes faster than last month here.

As expected for the varsity boys, our two junior standouts Sean Eustis and Isaac Stinchfield dominated the field (16:45 and 16:46), even while running shy of maximum effort. Sean's first place finish lengthened the individual Panther winning streak for the boys to 3 years (Dylan Croeni had won the past two years). A rare event of them pushing hard to the 1 mile mark took its toll on the Mark Morris mob perusing them. Shortly after that, the Monarchs faded way off the pace, which was their way lifting the white flag of surrender. Solid performances from Junior Geer McGee and Senior Noah Collins gave themselves hopes of earning 2nd team All-League honors while placing 12th and 14th. Freshmen Nicolas Velardi, Rusty Shiluk and Junior Darian Tierney all ran Black Course PRs to round out the team for the Panthers. As expected, the boys team landed comfortably in 2nd place of the 5 teams.

The varsity girls were caught off guard with a last minute omission from the roster when coaching staff pulled Kendall Utter due to leg pains, so they may have raced a little rattled, but still managed to capture their expected place, 3rd of the 5 teams. Freshman Karina Miller stole the show for the panthers as she was the only runner to set a life time PR on any course. Her performance of 22:15 was enough for 9th place and a ribbon. Senior Kayla Lockard (16th) nearly equaled her time from 3 weeks earlier (when the length of the course was not questionable) despite not feeling well. Sophomore Hannah Wright ran a Black Course PR while junior Kalli Light for the most part matched her performance from last year. Sophomore Megan Anderson picked up the slack from Kendall's absence to round out our top five with a big Black Course PR by posting a time some 2 1/2 minutes faster than the month before at this location!

This major target of the season is now our next race. Our District Meet will be at Lewisville Park on Saturday, October 29th, as we move from Connecting with ourselves, our sport and our teammates and working in total Collaboration towards qualifying for state.
