The "Run-Down": Seaside for the Girls
What a weekend! After their four-point victory over Mark Morris Thursday, the Lady Panthers headed to Seaside for the three-course challenge, a very different type of meet than what they are used to.
Runners draw chips for which course they will run: An "easy" course (that wasn't exactly easy) a moderate course and a difficult course which features two very steep hills, one of which seemed to go straight up.
Our "twins", juniors Megan Anderson and Sydney Hickey both drew the easy course, solidifying their bond. Both crossed the finish line with big smiles on their faces in 24.45 and 24.51 respectively, Megan saying, "This is my best memory of cross country. That was so much fun!"
Junior Hannah Wright and freshman Meredith Collins and drew the moderate course, and both enjoyed the experience, finishing in 27.37 and 29.06.
Then, it was time for the killer course of the day, which sophomore Karina Miller and juniors Brooke Croeni, Serene Dunn and Paige Roberts drew. Despite the level of difficulty involved, Serene chose to rise to the occasion, using her friend Paige for encouragement along the route.
Karina was first across the finish line for the Panthers in 28.48, followed by Croeni in 30.43, while Paige and Serene finished close together, with times of 34.07 and 35.56, respectively.
While the event was certainly not one for the record books of black course times, it was a trip that most certainly be remembered by all who were there, especially the trip to the beach in Seaside Friday night to "catch" the sunset by running barefoot in the sand, to Brooke's brief but fun barracks dance party Friday night, to the crazy body paint and school spirit seem throughout the course on Saturday.
Many thanks to Linda Miller for coming along and helping Coach Frost with all the logistics; and Gail Anderson and family for their delicious post-race snacks and assistance with the pop-up tent.
Fun events like these are part of what we love about cross country!
