Gavin Keyser

"I want to Win!"

Gavin Keyser

Those words may not have come out of Gavin Keyser's mouth, but that is what his actions "yelled at the top of his lungs." With a hundred meters to go in the race at Lake Sacajawea, he was trailing the leader by about 3 seconds. With 50 to go, he caught and blitzed passed the Cascade Middle School runner, and buried him by 4 whole seconds. His finishing kick quite obviously was a result of the Speed & Agility class from last winter, but his new level of performance is a byproduct of confidence and his love for the sport. Last year, Gavin's best placing in a race was a modest 16th out of 44, not even in the upper third of the placing. Las Vegas surely would have given about 100 to 1 odds that he would be winning races as such this year.

Alexis Maniscalco

"I want to Make Varsity...

Alexis Maniscalco

and I think I can do it!" That was the statement made by Alexis Maniscalco just 24 hours prior to her race at Lake Sacajawea. This location has become her favorite place to race. She ran a huge PR there last year during the All League meet, by well over a minute! This week, she shaved another 35 seconds off her PR. Her time of 23:27 comfortably landed her in our 5th position on the team, placing 6th overall. With respect to other "Orange Course" PR's on the team, she ran the biggest one, by far. After returning back to WHS, Alexis smiled from ear to ear, claiming that it is her senior year, and she needs to go out with a bang. Now that sounds like a strong case of 'Reverse Senioritis.' We all hope that is condition is contagious!
