Or 3 squared; maybe even 3 cubed (3 to the third power) if you want to say that Jonathan Wells' contribution to the team has been increasing exponentially! His performance at the Nike Portland was riddled with 3's. Jonathan moved up to third runner on the team (finally). His time of 17:16.1 ranks him the third fastest freshman in Panther history over 5K. He need 17 less seconds to catch Sean Eustis ('13) and 39 less seconds to eclipse teammate Gabriel Dinnel ('19) for the freshman class record. He is also now the #3 ranked freshman in the 2A state rankings, and both those ahead of him within 16 seconds. With all those 3's, we won't be surprised if he manages to catch them and the other milestones ahead of him these next 3 weeks!
Wednesday was not the best day in the world for Abigail Wall. While leading the race at Woodland, she veered off the course early on, then attempted to recover too quickly. Because of that, she struggled to the finish line in 3rd place. Saturday was a different story. In the big Nike meet, it is very difficult to get off course. In a huge field of 386 finishers, Abigail finished 13th in a time of 11:34.4 for 3K, breaking the MS Girls School Record by 21.1 seconds. Abigail is materializing into a very established runner as she maturely overcomes such frustrating situations. In fact, due to a problem with the race numbers, the results did not initially include her name. She still was able to smile big time since she knew what she actually accomplished.
